"I see every day as extra; I don't take anything for granted."
"I enlisted in the marine corps after 9/11 and deployed to Iraq and served a combat tour in Fallujah. I was wounded there. I was shot through the neck, the bullet severed my carotid artery but the heat of the round going through cauterised the vein, and the quick action by my fellow marines saved my life. I see every day as extra; I don't take anything for granted. I've lost good friends and it's a charge to make sure that we remember their families regularly and to 'make it count'." - Sean, Iraq war veteran and Purple Heart recipient
The latest stop on BBC's road trip ahead of the inauguration of @RealDonaldTrump
. We’re in the state capital Dover because it’s the location for a large military air base - as well as the largest military mortuary in the US - and many veterans continue their studies at Delaware State University. We gathered a group of active personnel and veterans to talk about their experiences serving, their transition back to civilian life, and their thoughts on Mr Trump's foreign policy rhetoric and pledge to overhaul care for veterans.
